Operation Heron: Hampshire detectives make two arrests

Detectives investigating a large series of racially abusive hate mail letters have made two arrests today (Tuesday, October 14).

Police executed a warrant at an address in the Fareham area early this morning and arrested a 70-year-old woman and a man, aged 36.

The pair was taken into custody locally, and subsequently released on bail pending further enquiries until January 2010.

The arrests follow information received as a result of an appeal made through local and national media two weeks ago.

Police are currently in the process of updating in excess of 50 victims who received letters as part of this investigation.

The investigation has been supported by the National Domestic Extremism Team.
