Jury discharged in animal rights case

A 48-year-old Northampton man is expected to face a new trial next year in relation to a campaign against Oxford University.

At Oxford Crown Court, Mel Broughton was cleared of possessing an explosive substance with intent but the jury failed to reach a decision on charges of conspiracy to commit arson and possession of articles with intent to damage or destroy property.

He has been remanded in custody pending a further hearing.
