Man pleads guilty to charges of planting a hoax bomb and sending white powder letters
After appearing at Southwark Crown Court today, a 45-year-old Portsmouth man pleaded guilty to 19 offences, which related to sending a number of letters, some containing a harmless white powder and others having racist content and also to planting a hoax bomb in a public place.
The man named as Jefferson Azevedo, pleaded guilty to nine offences under the Anti-Terrorism Crime and Security Act 2001, nine offences under the Malicious Communications Act 1988 and one offence under the Criminal Law Act 1977. He also asked to have 140 similar offences taken into consideration.
Directly after the hearing he was led away from the dock and taken straight into custody. He is next due to appear at the Southwark Crown Court for sentencing on Friday 13 June 2008.
