NETCU and Human Rights
While NETCU is not an operational unit, we recognise that the information and guidance we provide to police forces and industry potentially has an impact on the Human Rights of others. This means that the advice we give must be compatible with the Convention and we should not advise forces to act in a way that may unlawfully restrict the rights of others.
Through the provision of our support and services, we will not provide information or carry out activity in contravention of any of these Articles.
We will always consider and carry out our responsibilities under the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996 by disclosing any relevant material that relates to any trial or proceedings.
We recognise that the protection of life is one of the principal duties of a police officer and will provide appropriate information and support to businesses and organisations where it may assist in securing safety of the public and protection of life.
We work with other organisations, such as the NPIA to ensure that any guidance provided by NETCU complies with the law, including Human Rights legislation.
